Browsing the Registry File Structure
To open a registry file for browsing or editing, follow these steps:
- Open the three dots (…) submenu of the Main Menu.
- Select the Open a Registry File… command.
- In the dialog window, select the file to open.
The registry file will be displayed in a new tab in the registry editor. Note that the interface for working with the registry file is almost the same as the interface for working with the registry: You have the same commands to create, delete, and modify keys and values.
The content of the opened file can instantly be imported to the registry of the current system by clicking Import on the toolbar of the registry editor and choosing the Import Data of This File to the Registry command.
You can open more than one registry file at a time and work with them simultaneously, switching between tabs of these files in the registry editor window.
Reg Organizer makes it easy for you to review the structure of the registry file before importing. This option makes your work with registry files more secure and meaningful as it will be easy for you to see what data will be added to the registry and which keys and values will be affected during import.
Reg Organizer allows you to enable registry file review directly in Windows Explorer. The context menu of the registry file in Windows Explorer will be extended with a new command to open such files in Reg Organizer. More information on this feature can be found in the Shell Integration topic.
